Manchester United are set to resume their interest in Christian Eriksen when the January transfer window opens according to the Sun.
Eriksen has just one year left on his current Spurs deal and there has been plenty of time for foreign clubs to swoop – but none have managed to get a deal done.
That has apparently encouraged United to go back in – after they failed to get him earlier this summer – in the winter, when they will be looking to knock down the £70 million asking price they faced then.
It seems as if the Dane has not generated as much interest on the continent as he might have hoped for, and his uncertain situation has impacted his ability to feature for Spurs as well as his side’s performances.
TBR’s View – Why would Eriksen want to join this Manchester United side?
When Eriksen set his sights on a new challenge, it’s likely he had Spain or Italy in mind, joining a side who can regularly compete for their domestic title and do deep into the Champions League.
But United can’t offer a new league or style of football and moving to Old Trafford sees any player take a major risk with their reputation these days.
Financially, the move would boost Eriksen but staying at Tottenham makes more sense from a football point of view in the current climate.
Daniel Levy is likely to be hugely reluctant to let him join a domestic rival, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to have his work cut out getting this one over the line, even if Eriksen hasn’t signed a new deal by the time the winter window opens.
