Tottenham have already made an offer for Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo but Manchester United want to muscle in on the deal, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.
They report that Spurs and Italian champions Juventus already have bids on the table for the Italian starlet, but United are keen to hijack them and bring the player to Old Trafford.
United need central midfielders having seen Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini leave the club in the past two windows, and may well be able to usurp Spurs financially.
The Red Devils haven’t apparently made a bid just yet, and they might need to act face with Juventus and Tottenham long established as the two front-runners for his signature.
Zaniolo is one of the hottest young central midfielders in European football at the moment, and it’s easy to see why United would want him.
Perhaps a swap deal can be done between Spurs and Roma which takes Toby Alderweireld the other way, and that may also give the north London club the upper hand, even if United do want to join the hunt.
But when United’s financial muscle meets Daniel Levy’s frugality, there may be a reason for Tottenham fans to worry that the Italian will get away.
