Manchester United: Raid for Bayern man; Mourinho reacts to Arsenal draw; defender targeted

The Mirror claim that Manchester United could make a sensational move for Bayern Munich’s 24-year-old David Alaba. The versatile Austrian can play in central midfield or at left back, two areas identified as top priorities for January and summer additions by Jose Mourinho.

Scouts are believed to have monitored Alaba over the international break and a move could be prepared for the Bayern star. With a contract until 2021, he will not come cheaply and the German club would be hugely reluctant to allow him to leave so there could be a big task on Ed Woodward’s hands.

After conceding a late equaliser at Old Trafford to see three points turn to just one at the hands of Arsenal, Jose Mourinho felt hard done by as he told the media:

“We had chances to score and win the game comfortably. It was just like the draws against Stoke and Burnley. We have taken three points from those games and it should have been nine. Everybody knows we are the unluckiest team in the Premier League. We should have six points more and that would put us in the top four, as it is we have a lot more work to do. I am very happy with the work my players put in, but at the same time disappointed for them because this result feels like a defeat. We controlled the game against a very good team, we didn’t see anything of Arsenal’s amazing players and we didn’t allow them to build from the back, but we end up with one point. Finally I lost against Arséne.”

United did better than many had expected, with the Red Devils going into the game as underdogs but coming very close to securing the victory in a dominant display.

Mourinho has identified a need for defensive additions and one of those targeted could be Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj according to Il Mattino, who report that a £25 million bid may be on the cards in January. The Albanian is highly rated in Serie A and has courted interest from many of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The 22-year-old may be set to join a United defence full of youth in the coming months, but Mourinho is also keen to add experience to his back line.
