Manchester United pressure works heavily in Everton favour – TBR View

The pressure at Manchester United works heavily in favour of Everton. The two sides meet at the weekend in a huge Premier League game.

Manchester United meet Everton this weekend with the pressure on. They lost again this week, with Istanbul Basaksehir picking up their first-ever Champions League win.

And so the pressure is firmly on, then. United have had some poor results lately, including losing to Arsenal 1-0 and Tottenham Hotspur 6-1.

Sky pundit Paul Merson says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under ‘severe pressure’, in fact. He even thinks there’s a chance the boss loses his job before the weekend.

That works massively in favour of Everton. The Toffees will know exactly what to do when the teams meet.

Gameplan

United are infamously poor against teams that set up to defend against them. Tight, compacted defences don’t allow them to counter-attack – virtually the only wat they know how to score.

And United pretty much have to win against Everton. They have to attack and they have to look for goals. That plays wonderfully into Everton’s hands – they’ll have that counter-attacking space themselves.

All they have to do, then, is sit back and allow United to attack them. Under the pressure to win, they’ll have no choice but to do so.

Carlo Ancelotti will see this coming and surely tell his side to sit back and soak up pressure. We can expect pace on the wings and a lot of quick passing through James Rodriguez.

If they get it right, a forward-thinking United will get stuck in a pattern of attacking a defence they can’t break down, leaving that space in behind.

United hate playing that way but Everton can leave them without a say in the matter.
