Axel Tuanzebe – 7

Looked strong and assured on his full debut and you could easily have been forgiven for assuming he was a seasoned pro with no nerves on show at all. A few moments of inexperience nearly saw him caught out, but he couldn’t have had an opponent of higher quality in Alexis Sanchez.

Chris Smalling – 6 

Allowed Danny Welbeck way too much space as his former team-mate headed a second strike into the back of the net. Looked a little rusty on his return from injury but looked to help Tuanzebe when he could with the inexperienced youngster alongside him.

Phil Jones – 5

Looked like he was being exploited early on as Arsenal’s movement caught him out on several occasions. Quiet and failed to stamp any authority on the game and was dominated as a result.

Matteo Darmian – 6

Slacked off when he could have closed down Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to deny the cross for the second goal, he was otherwise defensively solid but seemed to be feeling the toll of playing so regularly.
