Creative and showed no sign of rust after so long on the sidelines. His booking was needless but that was his only error as he pressed high to add pressure on an inexperienced defence.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 8

His energy and movement was crucial but it was his reactions to add a second goal which will attract all the plaudits. A great all round performance after what started as a difficult season.

Marcus Rashford – 6

A frustrating evening for the England international through not fault of his own. Well marshalled by the young Ajax defence, he would have hoped to have more of an impact in the biggest game of his career to date.
