Manchester United Player Ratings: How the Red Devils rated as they won the Europa League by beating Ajax

In a poignant fixture for obivous reasons, Manchester United lived up to their billing as favourites and saw off the threat of a young Ajax side with a 2-0 victory at the aptly named Friends Arena in Stockholm.

Paul Pogba went some way to justifying his huge summer transfer fee early on as his shot was fortunately deflected past Andre Onana and into the back of the net to give United the lead.

Ajax looked to apply the pressure but Jose Mourinho’s side were resilient and well organised up against an exciting young side who were denied any real opportunities and barely a sight of goal.

Early in the second half it was another much maligned summer signing who put the tie to bed as Henrikh Mkhitaryan pounced inside the box with an acrobatic effort to give his team a 2-0 lead which they successfully saw out to lift the Europa League title.
