Manchester United: Palace victory reaction; Everton talks over midfielder; Bailly injury update

After last night’s controversial and late win over Crystal Palace, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic finding an 88th minute winner, Jose Mourinho praised his team as he told the press:

“We deserved it, we were the best team, they [Palace] had just a little reaction, just a little reaction, but they had it and they scored a goal in that period. Then we had the best period in the game. In the first half we had control but in the last 20 minutes we were super dominant. We created a lot, had a big desire and we won deservedly in the end.”

It was a good display from United, who would have been frustrated had they been held with a Juan Mata goal ruled out in questionable circumstances, though Marcos Rojo could easily have seen red for a two footed lunge and Paul Pogba’s goal could easily have been ruled out.

The Daily Mail report that Morgan Schneiderlin could move to Everton in January with the two clubs entering into talks over a £24 million, and Memphis Depay could follow him on loan. The pair have barely figured under Mourinho this campaign and are both expected to depart, with Ronald Koeman keen.

The suggested fee would see United make a profit on Schneiderlin, which would be a remarkable success in the transfer market given his lack of football this season.

However, there was a major blow for the Red Devils as Eric Bailly was forced off with a knee injury on his Premier League return after two months out with a ligament problem. Jose Mourinho told MUTV:

“The only thing I can say is that it is not the same knee. He had an injury in the right knee and he recovered fantastically well. Now it is the left knee. I don’t know really what he has, but let us see and wait. He could resist for so long. I would say for about 75 minutes he could resist. He is a special guy and his pain level is really high.”

Fans and Mourinho alike will be hoping that the injury is nothing serious with a real lack of quality in the backline at Old Trafford of late.
