Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, who made history this season in the UEFA Champions League.

The Red Devils are currently without starting goalkeeper Andre Onana, with the 27-year-old currently out on international duty with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.

As a result, United could be left short in the goalkeeping position for as long as a month, with Erik Ten Hag seemingly not sold on fellow summer signing Altay Bayindir to replace Onana.

Now, according to Sport Quotidano, United are eyeing up a move for Provedel, who stole headlines earlier this season by scoring a last-minute equaliser for Lazio in the Champions League.

Only the fourth goalkeeper to ever score in the competition, Provedel has impressed for Lazio away from his goalscoring antics this campaign.

Yet for United, signing such short-term cover seems like a waste of funds, especially with Onana potentially returning soon if Cameroon crash out of AFCON at an early stage.

Manchester United signing Ivan Provedel makes little sense this month

Provedel’s stories is one of the best in European football this season, yet for United, signing the Lazio keeper would make little sense.

As we know, Onana will be back in the coming weeks regardless of how far Cameroon go in AFCON, and Ten Hag should be confident to give Bayindir games to prove himself for the Red Devils.

Moreover, there are more pressing matters in United’s squad than the goalkeeping position, which is currently quite stacked with Tom Heaton also on the books.
