Arsenal transfer target Darwin Nunez has reportedly left the Manchester United hierarchy ‘hugely impressed’, according to 90min.
However, according to The Express, the Gunners have held direct talks with Benfica about a £67million move for their Uruguayan striker.
With both United and Mikel Arteta’s side fighting to secure Champions League qualification, participation in Europe’s top club competition will have a huge bearing on whether Benfica’s number nine sees either side as a possible destination.
The 22-year-old took his tally for the season to 28 goals in all competitions with his strike against Liverpool, in the 3-1 Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat at the Estadio da Luz.

Nunez’s five Champions League goals this season have come against Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The youngster’s burgeoning reputation is elevating to new heights with every big game he impresses in.
He’s undoubtedly going to be one of the stories of the summer transfer window and is undeniably one of the most coveted strikers across Europe.
With a lot of the focus on the futures of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, Nunez is on his own path to footballing stardom and Uruguay have unearthed yet another gem of a striker.

With Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez entering the twilight stages of their careers, the legendary duo will be passing on the baton to Nunez who seemingly has the temperament and self-belief to step out from their shadows and forge his own legacy.
The race to sign Darwin Nunez this summer is already on and with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to walk away from the Emirates as free agents this summer, Arsenal’s need looks far greater than the rest of the chasing pack.
