Manchester United have included Thomas Frank on their wishlist as they consider potential replacements for Erik ten Hag in the summer.

Erik ten Hag continues to have a point to prove at Old Trafford. Despite a promising first season, the Dutchman has struggled to silence his doubters.

Some have already expressed their belief that it would be a surprise if ten Hag remained at Manchester United next season. And it seems that some at Old Trafford are making plans in case he does leave the club in the coming months.

Manchester United interested in Thomas Frank

According to a report from ESPN, Manchester United are yet to make a decision on ten Hag’s future. However, they do have their eye on a number of managers should he leave.

According to the report, as well as Roberto De Zerbi, United have their eye on Gareth Southgate and Thomas Frank.

United have been impressed by the way Frank has built a high-energy team and worked in a data-driven environment at Brentford. Southgate meanwhile, is seen as an outsider for the post. Obviously, his focus will be on Euro 2024. And that will clearly eat into much of the summer.

Not an inspiring appointment

Frank is also on Liverpool’s radar as the Reds prepare for Jurgen Klopp’s departure. So the 50-year-old is attracting plenty of attention. Klopp himself, suggested it was ‘horrible’ to play against his Brentford team.

It will probably not be an appointment which captures the imagination of Manchester United fans. Frank has done brilliantly during his time with the Bees. But this season has been much more of a struggle for the club.

It will be intriguing to see who the first managerial appointment will be following INEOS’ arrival. It may perhaps provide a big clue as to what identity the club is hoping to build in the coming years.
