Manchester United are seemingly trying to beat Liverpool to one of the 2023/24 campaign’s best performing midfielders.
Both Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot are in need of a new No.6 to beef up their respective midfield departments – Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad before the Spaniard opted to stay in San Sebastien.
Now, a player Liverpool apparently want to sign in the aftermath of the Spain international’s decision has been the subject of a bid from Manchester United…
Manchester United bid for Ederson amid Liverpool links
A story from Alfredo Pedulla now states that Manchester United have made a €50m (£42.5m) bid to sign Ederson from Atalanta.
The Italian journalist reports that Manchester United held a meeting with the UEFA Europa League winners earlier this week to “settle some paperwork” regarding the £72m sale of Rasmus Hojlund back in August 2023, where the Red Devils also asked about the Brazilian midfielder.
It comes after Fabrizio Romano claimed that Liverpool have been considering a move to sign Ederson after his outstanding 2023/24 campaign.

The South American made 53 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals while also recording one assist, and arguably would have won the Man of the Match award in Atalanta’s 3-0 UEFA Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen, had Ademola Lookman not scored a stunning hat trick.
Eurosport Italy even described Ederson’s performance as a “truly sensational” display.
Pedulla adds that Manchester United and Atalanta hold an excellent relationship, although the Serie A outfit are unwilling to sell the Brazil international with just eight days of the transfer window remaining.
Arne Slot considering move for different Atalanta player
Ederson is not the only Atalanta player with admirers across Europe.
TBR Football understand that Liverpool are considering a late move to sign the aforementioned Lookman – with the Nigeria international currently asking not to play as he aims to secure a move away from Bergamo.

Sources inform TBR Football that Arsenal and Manchester City also like Lookman.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Atalanta, as the Italian side could be raided ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday 30th August.
