Manchester United: Madrid prepare for huge bid; Deschamps' Pogba problem; youth star's progression

Spanish sources claim that Real Madrid are preparing for a bid from Manchester United for Welsh star Gareth Bale as reports surface that his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has met with Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward in recent days as the Red Devils prepare a move for the star either in January or in the summer.

Adidas are reportedly keen on the deal and could help to fund it partly, with the fee likely to be astronomical if it will persuade Madrid to let their man go, particularly given the poor form of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at the start of this season while Bale shines. With Bale said to be seeking a £340,000 per week deal, United may have to break the bank for the forward, but it could be worth it for one of the world’s best players.

After this summer’s top signing, Paul Pogba, has suffered a slow start to life in Manchester, the Manchester Evening News report that his national team manager Didier Deschamps has criticised the high expectations on the midfielder’s shoulders. The former midfielder himself said:

“He has changed his club team and needs to find his bearing with his new team-mates. With Paul, we always expect more. When he does something neutral, often it is not enough. He is someone we expect to make assists in every game – there is an expectation that is too large.”

Pogba will now face some tough ties as his side prepare for their World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Holland and he will be hoping to hit form which he can bring back with him to the Premier League.

However, there are cheaper options available, and some could even come through the club’s youth ranks. One of those could be D J Buffonges, as the starlet of the United under-18s side has shone in recent weeks and has attracted praise for his superb strike this weekend.

The former Fulham youth product is believed to have impressed Jose Mourinho, who could consider the midfielder for selection in the near future as the 17-year-old continues to improve.
