From Manchester United and Liverpool-linked to Aston Villa dud, Neil Taylor has not worrked out

The left-back has not had the impact Aston Villa would have wanted.

Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers yesterday, as they continued to struggle to find regular winning ways in the Championship. It took a late free-kick from Conor Hourihane to earn a point after Bradley Dack continued his great form with an early goal.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce did make some changes for the game. The under-fire boss pulled in Neil Taylor from the cold at left-back. Considering where he was a few years ago, it is a shock to see the Welshman’s stock fall so low.

Back in 2015, Liverpool were being linked with the player, as reported by ESPN. In 2012, it was Manchester United who wanted him. The Mirror reported he was the renewed option for United, who had given up hope of signing Leighton Baines.

It came after Taylor made an immediate impact in the Premier League with former club Swansea City.

Taylor however soon started to go downhill. The Welshman suffered a horrific fractured ankle in 2012. It saw him lose his regular place at Swansea and, soon enough, he headed to Villa.

But he has never looked the same player.

Aston Villa got Taylor as part of a swap deal for Jordan Ayew and will have felt they had a perfect left-back solution in his arrival.

But he has looked far off the player that Manchester United and Liverpool once targeted since his arrival at Villa Park.
