Manchester United interest could derail Tottenham hopes of landing Andersen

Manchester United are tracking Sampdoria central defender Joachim Andersen with designs on a potential summer swoop, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

The Dane is apparently one of three Serie A defenders the Red Devils have their eye on, alongside Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar as the club looks to move away from the ageing targets Jose Mourinho wanted at the back.

But the Independent reported last month that Tottenham are also in the hunt for Andersen as they begin to prepare for life without Toby Alderweireld because he has a £25m release clause this summer.

So the clubs may be set for a transfer battle for Andersen, and with United boasting the better spending power, that may be bad news for Spurs in the summer.

Perhaps Christian Eriksen’s influence on his countryman may convince him to elect to join Spurs, but then again the Evening Standard reported last month that he was stalling on signing a new deal to keep him in north London.

Of course, it remains to be seen who is in charge of both clubs at the start of next season and that state of flux is reportedly (Manchester Evening News) why Andersen was urged not to make a move during last month’s transfer window.
