Manchester United: Incredible Rooney offer; Moyes slams club; another defender could join
Wayne Rooney could soon receive a remarkable offer with Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao and Beijing Guoan both preparing offers to try to persuade the United captain to join the Chinese Super League with an offer worth £700,000 per week, say the Mirror.
The Beijing outfit already held talks with Rooney’s agent last summer but were met with little enthusiasm, but they believe that the situation may now have changed after he has been dropped to the bench for both club and country in recent months.
David Moyes has hit out the club in a remarkable rant ahead of his first return to Old Trafford in the opposition dugout when he visits with Sunderland on Boxing Day. He said:
“I wanted to give those players a chance to show what they could do and gradually make changes as I went along, not make wholesale changes… There have been two very successful managers go in there – Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho – and you can see how tough they are finding the job as well… Manchester United was a club with great traditions, traditions where they tended to pick British managers. That tradition has now gone. They were a football club who enjoy traditions with the way they spent. They didn’t try to compete with all the other clubs. They did what they thought was the right thing to do and spent the right way. I can say that’s gone. There have been a few changes at Manchester United but that’s the way they have chosen to go.”
Moyes was sacked after a dismal first campaign in 2014 but neither of his successors have fared much better since they came into the hot seat.
The club could also pull off a transfer move in the coming weeks by not only signing Victor Lindelof from Benfica, but by adding right back Nelson Semedo to the deal, say A Bola. It seems likely that the Portuguese club would not be prepared to allow both to depart in January, but the Lindelof deal is expected to be completed soon.
That will see 23-year-old join in the summer despite agreeing a deal in January, allowing him to see out the campaign in Portugal before moving to England.
