Manchester United: Griezmann deal persistence; Mourinho reacts to Hull defeat; deal set for completion

The Daily Record, one of the most reliable sources when it comes to United gossip, claim that the Red Devils are using Paul Pogba as a key part of their strategy to launch a move for his international teammate and close friend Antoine Griezmann. The forward has been linked with a big-money summer move to Old Trafford.

With Atletico Madrid underperforming in La Liga and even putting their Champions League place at risk, currently only retaining their top four places by goal difference, a deal could be feasible, particularly if Pogba can convince his friend that he should make the move.

The Red Devils may have lost for their first time since November with a 2-1 loss to Hull City last night, but it was enough to take them to Wembley for the EFL Cup final against Southampton thanks to their 2-0 win in the first leg. Jose Mourinho reacted to say:

“I just want to say congratulations to my players. It was a difficult road to be in the final and we are in the final. I don’t want to say anything else. It is enough, I am calm, I behaved on the bench, no sending off, no punishment so no more words.”

Mourinho, like many fans, appeared infuriated after a baffling penalty call by Jon Moss gave the Tigers the lead thanks to Tom Huddlestone, and Omar Niasse scored the winner on the night even after Paul Pogba’s equaliser.

The Independent claim that an outgoing is set to be completed in the coming days as 21-year-old Sean Goss prepares to sign for Queens Park Rangers for an initial fee of £500,000, with a further £300,000 possible in add-ons. The left-sided central midfielder never played for the United first team but has made 23 appearances for the club’s reserve team.
