Everton are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United’s defender Chris Smalling before Thursday’s 5pm deadline but have had a loan bid rejected – though Manchester United fans want Everton to sign him.
Sky Sports have claimed Everton have tested United’s resolve over the 29-year-old centre-back, with the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now boasting seven central defenders at Old Trafford following the signing of Harry Maguire.
Solskjaer has welcomed back Axel Tuanzebe after an excellent spell at Aston Villa, adding the youngster to a list that also boasts Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof – as well as Maguire and Smalling.

Everton and Marco Silva have taken notice from United’s depth in that area and have looked to lure England international Smalling to Goodison Park, hoping that Solskjaer sees Smalling as somewhat flexible.
But it seems that Solskjaer is desperate to keep the £80,000-a-week defender (Spotrac), who is set to enter his tenth season at Manchester United since joining the Red Devils from Fulham in the summer of 2010.
Manchester United fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Everton have had a loan bid rejected for the centre-back, and United fans have pleaded with Everton to re-enter the market for him, as they want him gone.
