Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura has claimed he almost joined Manchester United in the summer of 2013 before joining Paris Saint-Germain – and United supporters have reacted on Twitter to his comments.
Moura, 27, is in excellent form following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager. He has scored three goals in five Premier League matches, including the first in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Back in 2012, a young Moura was starring for Sao Paulo – his boyhood club – and was attracting the interest of many around Europe. He netted 22 times in 86 games, as well as laying 19 assists on a plate for his teammates.
It saw PSG spend a whopping £37.5million to buy the Brazil international, and he went on to win five France Ligue 1 titles – during his 229 appearances. Moura, though told ESPN Brasil, that he was close to Old Trafford before joining PSG.

“Yes, there was a conversation. I was very close to closing with Manchester United,” Moura admits. “It was still at the time of Ferguson. I ended up choosing PSG, I spent five fantastic years there, I won a lot, learned a lot. I do not regret it.”
Moura, who has 35 caps for Brazil, has scored at a ratio of one goal every four games – with 21 strikes in 80 appearances, 26 of which have been from the bench. He seems to be first choice on the right, alongside Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.
Manchester United fans reacted somewhat angrily on Twitter to the news that Moura rejected a move at the last minute to move to Old Trafford and work under Sir Alex Ferguson – instead choosing to join PSG.
