Newcastle United and West Ham United have both been linked with a move to sign Manchester United defender Phil Jones ahead of the summer window – and United supporters are desperate for the defender to leave Old Trafford.

Jones, 28, is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer after plummeting down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Indeed, the England international has only managed two Premier League appearances this season.

The Mirror have now claimed that both Newcastle and West Ham are keen on former Blackburn Rovers defender Jones, despite having more than three years remaining on his £75,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford (Spotrac).

Despite only featuring twice in the Premier League this season, Jones has crossed the 200-mark for top-flight appearances in England and that knowledge and know how of the league is a valuable commodity.

The report claims Solskjaer’s side will let Jones go for a fee in the region of £12million, which has alerted Newcastle and West Ham. The Toon are expected to offer Jones a lifeline in a bid to save his stuttering career, but West Ham are keen, too.

Manchester United supporters reacted to the news that clubs are reportedly interested in signing Jones, and many are desperate to see the back of their number four. Some would even see him leave the club on a free.
