Newcastle United have reportedly added Odion Ighalo to their January shortlist as Eddie Howe looks to beef up his attacking options. The news has prompted reaction from Manchester United fans, after a loan at Old Trafford.

Ighalo, 32, is currently playing in Saudi Arabia for second-placed Al-Shabab. The 36-time Nigeria international has scored nine goals in 13 games, after the Saudi season commenced in August.

The Nigerian powerhouse has scored goals wherever he has played. China, Spain, England, Norway, Italy or the Middle East. At his current club, he has 18 goals in 26 appearances in total for the Saudi outfit.

Having scored 40 goals in 100 games at Watford, Manchester United made the surprise move to bring him to Old Trafford in January 2020 on loan. He lasted at United for 12 months, scoring five in 23.

Now, he could be about to join his third Premier League club in Norwich. Sky Sports report that Newcastle are keen and the striker himself is said to have told Al-Shabab that if Newcastle come calling – he would be seriously interested.

What are Manchester United fans saying about Newcastle eyeing Ighalo?

Newcastle do have Callum Wilson up top. But other than the England international, they lack a secondary striker with Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin playing elsewhere. Ighalo might be the ideal competition for Wilson.

Having watched the Nigeria international for a year at their club, Manchester United fans have reacted on Twitter to Newcastle eyeing Ighalo. Many believe he would be a good signing for Howe’s men.
