Manchester United fans react as Everton confirm they held talks to sign Old Trafford ace van de Beek
Everton sporting director Marcel Brands says he spoke to Manchester United about signing Donny van de Beek – and United fans have reacted.
Van de Beek, 24, joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. But ever since his move, he has struggled to get a chance at United.
Clocking up 39 appearances in all competitions, only 17 have come from the start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Four of those 17 in the Premier League.
This season, he has only played three times – his only 90 minutes coming in the Carabao Cup. Clearly, the Netherlands international needs to go.
For the sake of his career, a loan move somewhere to prove his worth to United and other clubs would be beneficial. Everton were keen.
Indeed, Brands told NOS over the weekend that he spoke to Everton, and a deal almost went through. He also spoke about a possible January deal.
“We had him on our list,” Brands said. “At the end of the window, I received a call from his agent; he might be loaned. But it was cancelled, last minute.
On January: “It is early October, so much can still happen with injuries. United are playing on various fronts, it’s hard to say now.”
What are Manchester United fans about Everton and van de Beek?
A lot of United fans have sympathy for van de Beek. The season prior to his move to United, he produced 21 goal involvements in 37 Ajax games.
Clearly, there is a talent there. But he needs game time to unlock that potential and talent. Perhaps, a loan move would be ideal in January.
It is not the first time a Dutch midfielder has struggled, after a big-money move from Ajax. Indeed, Everton spent big on Davy Klaassen.
Manchester United fans reacted to the news regarding Everton and van de Beek and many think it would be a good move. One fan wants a swap.
