Manchester United are interested in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to reports.
The Sun is claiming that the club sent assistant manager Mike Phelan to watch Phillips take on Birmingham City at Elland Road last weekend. First-team coach Kieran McKenna was then in attendance as Phillips lined up against Preston in midweek.
The report claims that Manchester United are interested in a deal for Phillips next summer. The club are aware that he will cost ‘big money’ and are wary of being caught out in an ‘auction’ for his sale in the event that Leeds fail to get promoted.
The reaction from Leeds United fans has been fairly predictable.

The West Yorkshire fanbase understands that Phillips is a wanted man and accept that a lack of promotion this season could result in the club losing the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’.
However, nobody at Elland Road wants to see Phillips end up at the club’s bitter rivals at Old Trafford.
But what have Manchester United fans made of the news?
It seems to be a mixed bag. Plenty of fans understand that Phillips is exactly the sort of young British talent the club are now prepared to take a chance on, such as Daniel James or Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
But Leeds fans will not be impressed with the assertion by many that Phillips is simply not good enough, and never will be good enough, to play for the Red Devils.
