Manchester United fans discuss Jesse Lingard’s debut for West Ham United

Jesse Lingard scored a brace on his debut for West Ham United after being handed a start by David Moyes against Aston Villa on Wednesday night – and Manchester United fans have reacted to Lingard’s strike in the 3-1 win.

The Hammers came into the match full of confidence despite losing to Liverpool last time out – and they impressed with a comfortable win over Dean Smith’s side. They took the lead through in-form midfielder Tomas Soucek.

A delightful pass from Said Benrahma put Soucek through and his cross shot was too hot to handle for Emi Martinez. Lingard, 28, looked lively but his best moment came five minutes after Soucek’s 50th-minute opener.

Benrahma started another counter attack for West Ham and found Michail Antonio – who held the ball up before playing a delightful chip into England midfielder Lingard. Instant control with his chest gave him the chance.

His left-footed effort was struck well, but he was somewhat fortuitous to see it end up in the back of the net past goalkeeper Martinez – who was guilty of a rare mistake. Lingard’s delight was plain to see.

Ollie Watkins got one back for Villa, but Lingard doubled his tally after Antonio played him. Again, his effort was struck well – this time with his right- but Martinez should have saved it, palming an effort into the top corner.

Lingard technically remains a Manchester United player until the end of the season when his contract expires – but it is expected that he will leave in June. United supporters were full of praise, though, for their on-loan star.
