Manchester United look set to miss out on talented Swiss youngster Breel Embolo, according to German newspaper Bild. Reports suggest that the 19-year-old striker has agreed a deal to join German giants Schalke, beating the Red Devils and Red Bull Leipzig to the deal.
He is believed to have signed a deal with Bundesliga giants Schalke as part of a £15million move. However, no deal is expected to be formally announced until after Switzerland’s summer duties are all completed.
Embolo has become one of the hottest properties in Europe after netting 12 times last season and showing very brief glimpses of what he can do at Euro 2016. However, Despite looking bright in France this summer, question marks remain over his currently ability.
Unlike Anthony Martial, when he arrived at Old Trafford from Monaco in August of last year, Embolo appears a very raw talent and it is unlikely he would be afford first-team football next term.
The 19-year-old is clearly a talent who would require a lot of time, patience and quality coaching to fulfil his full potential and with alternative targets available, it may be best that Mourinho looks elsewhere.
Meanwhile, one of the more barbaric rumours that will surface this summer, Manchester United will make a move for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey — if the club fails to lure Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Reports by the Sun suggest that, should Dortmund continue to dig in their heels over the departure of Armenian international Mkhitaryan, Jose Mourinho will test Arsene Wenger’s resolve by bidding for the £50-million rated Gunners’ star.
A certain faction of United fans may disagree, but Aaron Ramsey would be an excellent addition in midfield for the club.
Currently showing his class in France, where he has scored one goal and assisted a further two for his team-mates, his ability to operate from box-to-box is unrivalled by any current play at Old Trafford.
Despite this being the case, there is absolutely no chance of this move materialising.
Firstly, Arsenal wouldn’t sell the 25-year-old to United, secondly, it is highly unlikely that the Old Trafford hierarchy would pay the reported fee, and perhaps most importantly, finally, the player himself would not want to move.
Ultimately, there is little doubt that those associated with both the Welshman and Arsenal will be perplexed by these latest reports.
Finally, there has been an update in the Red Devil’s reported chase for Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta.
According to the Mirror, the Spanish international is wanted by former Blues boss Jose Mourinho for a summer move to Manchester United – but both Paris Saint-Germain and Athletic Bilbao are also keen on the Spaniard.
The versatile 26-year-old, who can play in both full-back positions, has three years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge. However, his future is seen as being in doubt with Antonio Conte believed to be keen on signing Juventus left-back Kwadwo Asamoah this summer.
Azpilicueta would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Mourinho’s current options at right-back – with Matteo Darmian failing to cement a starting-role, like many expected him to, under Louis van Gaal last term.
The Spaniard is a considerably more cultured player than his Italian counterpart. Meanwhile, his ability to play on the left side of defence would make him a very valuable asset when squad depth is taken into consideration.
