Manchester United: Defender linked with shock return; U-turn on Argentinean; Griezmann targeted

The Sun claim that former United youth product Michael Keane could be set for a return to the club where he came through the ranks as Jose Mourinho may be lining him up as one of the club’s top targets. The central defender has excelled since joining Burnley two years ago and is now wanted by a number of top clubs.

Keane would bring defensive stability to a side which is struggling to find a settled back four and also has the added bonus of having homegrown status not only for Premier League registration rules but also for European competition rules having come through the club’s ranks.

He may be joined in defence by Marcos Rojo, who was expected to leave the club either in January or in the summer, but the Daily Record claim that Jose Mourinho has now performed a U-turn and is happy to allow him to remain at the club as he sees him as a valuable option after his appearances of late.

Rojo has been much improved of late, despite criticism for a tackle which could have seen him sent off against Everton, and appears to have done enough to justify his Old Trafford future for a little longer.

Another player who could be heading to Manchester as TalkSPORT journalist Pilib de Brun is quoted in the Daily Star saying that Antoine Griezmann is keen on a move to Manchester United and the Red Devils are prepared to pay his buy out clause worth £83.5 million.

The Frenchman is not expected to join until the summer, but the club are said to be waiting until Wayne Rooney departs at the end of the season so that the forward can be a direct replacement. Griezmann is believed to be happy to move with Atletico currently sitting 6th in La Liga with Diego Simeone said to be considering his future.
