Manchester United: Defender denies move; bid for midfielder rejected; no loan exits

Nelson Semedo, Benfica’s young right-back who has been linked with a £35 million move to Old Trafford, has spoken out after victory for Benfica in the Portuguese Super League Cup against FC Paco Ferreiras to deny that he may be nearing an exit from the Estadio da Luz, saying:

“You can rest easy. I’m completely focused on Benfica and I’m hoping to continue here for many years to come.”

Another man linked with United and on the books of Benfica is Victor Lindelof, who was left out of the squad for the tie and it is unknown if that is because he may be headed to the Premier League.

One man who may not be going anywhere after speculation is Morgan Schneiderlin as the Mirror claim that the Red Devils have rejected a £13 million bid for the Frenchman from West Brom. However, he is still expected to leave and does not have a role to play under Jose Mourinho.

Schneiderlin has also been linked with Everton but has not featured since a cameo appearance in mid-November and has played just 11 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, with the Baggies likely to make another offer for the 27-year-old.

He may also have been one player who Mourinho indirectly referred to as he told the media that he does not predict any player will be allowed to leave the club on loan in January as he said:

“I don’t want to sell players. The club, the board are totally with me. But, as I said before, if a player is not having lots of minutes, and if a player really wants to leave, we have no right to stop the player to leave, if the conditions are our conditions. And until this moment, we have not received one single offer that we are going to accept. Sam Johnstone is the only player that I allow to go on loan because he doesn’t play one single minute, he needs to play.”

Sunderland and Stoke have both been linked with Johnstone with both clubs missing their first choice goalkeepers through injury. The 23-year-old has previously had loan spells in the Football League with the likes of Doncaster and Preston but is now expected to join a Premier League side on loan for the rest of the season.
