Portuguese newspaper Record claim that the Red Devils are fighting off interest from Paris Saint-Germain in an attempt to seal a £26 million deal for Benfica man Gonçalo Guedes within the next 48 hours. The attacking midfielder has recorded seven goals and seven assists in 28 games this season.
At just 20-years-old, Guedes has huge potential and has shown himself to be one of the most creative young players in Europe with his superb ability to hold the ball up and spot the perfect pass, whilst also possessing a deadly shot from distance.
Another young starlet who could be on his way to Old Trafford is Ajax’s 19-year-old sensation Kasper Dolberg who has scored an impressive 11 goals in 28 games since breaking into the first team earlier this campaign. The Mirror say that United and Borussia Dortmund are both monitoring the Dutchman’s situation.
The club are highly unlikely to move for Dolberg this month but Jose Mourinho is said to have sent scouts to the Amsterdam Arena to monitor his progress and keep him updated with an eye on a potential move once he has proven that his form shows his quality rather than a flash in the pan.
A far more experienced player is second choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero and the Independent claim that the Argentinean turned down a move to Boca Juniors despite holding talks with manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
Romero may depart in the summer depending on the progress of 20-year-old Joel Pereira who is currently away on loan in Portugal and impressing youth coaches. Romero does not feel that he is ready to return to South America yet after 10 years in Europe, but he may still be needed at Old Trafford if Pereira is not deemed ready for the Premier League.
