Sky Sports claim that a deal for Victor Lindelof has already been agreed, according to the Daily Star. The deal is in a confusing state, with the Swede having played 90 minutes for Benfica at the weekend having sat out their last two fixtures, but sources close to the club claim that a deal is already in place.
What is holding up the move remains a mystery, particularly given Jose Mourinho’s claims that he is not looking to add to his defence this month, but the 22-year-old would certainly add quality and depth to his squad.
An alternative could be Roma defender Kostas Manolas, with the Sun, cited by Metro, claiming that a bid worth £47.6 million has been prepared and is ready to be launched for the Greek international. The Serie A club are hoping to hold out for at least £52 million if they are to allow him to leave.
The 25-year-old has featured in all but three fixtures for his club this season, being forced to miss those through injury, and has become one of the stars of the season in Italy and could add some steel to the United defence.
He could be joined by Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko if the Daily Record are correct, though they will face a hardfought transfer battle along with Chelsea and Manchester City for the 22-year-old. The Ligue Une club were previously refusing to sell this month, but may be tempted by a bid worth £23 million if one is made.
Likened to Nemanja Matic in style, Bakayoko is a very capable player who is superb in the tackle and excellent on the ball with a range of passing ability. A France under 21 international, the former Rennes man has come on leaps and bounds already in the past year or two and looks set to continue that form.
