Manchester United could sell Raphael Varane to a club in Saudi Arabia in the January transfer window.

Erik ten Hag‘s side must change something next month. All eyes will be on incomings, but Varane’s future is up in the air too, and The Sun claim he could be sold to a club in the Saudi Pro League.

Manchester United could sell Raphael Varane for £20m

Manchester United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021.

The Frenchman was viewed as one of the best defenders in the world back then. He had won everything in Spain, and he was expected to help bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United have had a ton of struggles over the last two years, and their form this season has been absolutely disastrous.

Varane will enter the final six months of his contract next week. There have been a lot of rumours about his future, including one linking him with a return to Real Madrid.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are also said to be interested in Varane, and The Sun now claim that Manchester United could cut their losses if an offer of £20 million arrives in January.

Varane is currently Manchester United’s second-highest-paid player, earning a mammoth £340,000 a week (Spotrac).

Manchester United should keep Varane till the summer

It is fair to say that Raphael Varane’s move to Manchester United has not worked out.

The Frenchman is a world-class defender, there is no debate there. He has accomplished everything in his career, but at Old Trafford, he just hasn’t looked anything like the player he was at Real Madrid.

However, Manchester United are extremely short of options at the back. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez are all injured, which is why Erik ten Hag had to use Willy Kambwala next to Jonny Evans last weekend.

With so much going on, we think keeping hold of Varane until the end of the season makes the most sense, even if it means they will lose him for free.
