Manchester United can genuinely sign N’Golo Kante 2.0 and get Carlos Baleba next summer

Manchester United are not done yet in the transfer market, with Ruben Amorim still insistent on signing a competent six to start in midfield for the club after a failed Carlos Baleba approach.

It hasn’t worked out for Manuel Ugarte thus far, and with the ageing Casemiro not getting any younger, Amorim is looking to upgrade.

Carlos Baleba was United’s ideal choice, but Brighton have made it very clear the Cameroonian is not for sale.

So, United must seek Baleba alternatives, one of which TBR Football revealed was Lucien Agoume.

Lucien Agoume has N’Golo Kante-like qualities

Agoume has again been linked to United in recent days – and he could be a perfect budget alternative to Baleba. But he isn’t just a backup – he’s the real deal.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakout year at Sevilla, helping his side narrowly avoid relegation from La Liga, and was a standout performer for the Spanish club.

Most notably, his defensive attributes caught the eye. He averaged just under five tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes, placing him among the top bracket of players in Spain.

The Frenchman really is Ngolo Kante-esque – for comparison, he averaged around seven tackles and two and a half interceptions per game across club and country during his Premier League peak.

Lucien Agoume only has £35m release clause

Naturally, the problem for United is their lack of funds, but this doesn’t seem to be an issue with Agoume.

Sevilla-based outlet Orgullo Biri reported that he has a release clause of £34.5 million, but they are willing to bring his price down to £26 million. Music to the Red Devils’ ears, it’s a genuine possibility.

Then, United can go for Baleba next summer, and it’s a win-win.

Granted, Agoume won’t be the finished article, but his profile is exactly what’s needed at Old Trafford in Amorim’s regime, which is coming together nicely.
