Manchester United: Audacious Messi move; Mourinho discusses Mkhitaryan; Portuguese star scouted
Adidas will help fund a move for Lionel Messi, claim Marketing Deportivo. By offering the Barcelona star £85 million to see out his current contract without signing a new deal, and then a £42 million contract at Old Trafford, the company hope to bring two of their biggest brands together.
It is seen as one last roll of the dice by the German sports giants as they grow increasingly concerned by the Red Devils decline over the past few years with fears that it is affecting the brand’s value.
Jose Mourinho has also spoken out to defend a misfiring summer signing as he discussed Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s struggle for first team football, he told the Manchester Evening News:
“Obviously he is not happy but he is transforming his frustration in a good way which is; close the mouth and work hard and try to adapt. He is trying. I told him (before the Arsenal match) that he is going to be involved in the game against Feyenoord. I told him this (vs the Gunners) was not the game for you, I don’t think he needs 10 or 20 minutes from the bench I think you need a good game and you need to either start or if not to come for the second half. He needs less pressure and better conditions for him to express his qualities.”
The £26 million signing has only played one Europa League game since picking up an injury against Manchester City in the Premier League and is yet to earn a second league start for the club.
The club are also returning their attentions to Sporting Lisbon, where they discovered Cristiano Ronaldo, to make a move for young winger Gelson Martins, who has been likened to Luis Figo. The Express claim that the 21-year-old is being monitored by scouts from United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and a number of other clubs.
Having made 14 appearances already this campaign and having featured for his national team, the Portuguese international is hoping to maintain his blistering form.
