Manchester United are interested in signing Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to France Football. The 21-year-old was regarded as one of French football’s top prospects during his time with Rennes.
Having come up through the ranks with the Ligue 1 side, he impressed so much during the 2013/14 season that he earned a move to rivals Monaco. However, following his switch 2014, the 21-year-old has only been able to make 22 appearances, casting doubt over his future at the club.
Reports suggest United have been put on alert as uncertainly lingers over the youngster and his ability to fit in manager Leonardo Jardim’s plans. It also add that Bakayoko is considering proposals from Premier League rivals Stoke and Southampton, who are also interested in securing his signature before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old is a capable ball-winning midfielder. Effective in the air, and adept a reading the game and winning back for possession for his side, he would be a good addition for the aforementioned sides, particularly Southampton, who have just lost Victor Wanyama. However, links to Old Trafford are somewhat bizarre.
This is a strange rumour considering some of the players United are currently being linked with to occupy a role in central midfield. With the likes of Juventus’ Paul Pogba and Paris Saint Germain’s Blaise Matuidi, one gets the sense that the 21-year-old only represents a back-up option for Mourinho, should he fail to land his priority targets.
Meanwhile, there has finally been a breakthrough in the club’s pursuit of Juventus’ Paul Pogba, that is if recent reports from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio are to be believed. It is believed that, although a fee is yet to be agreed with the Serie A club, United already have an agreement in principle with the player himself.
Allegedly, the Red Devils have offered the Frenchman 13 million euros per season, net of taxes, which he has accepted. Now for the the Old Trafford outfit, the only hurdle that remains if Juventus’ appetite to keep hold of the 23-year-old. Reports suggest United are ready to make an offer of 120 million euros (approx £100m), which the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, will present to Juventus at the end of the tournament.
There is a feeling among Manchester United fans that Paul Pogba would be the club’s most important signing of the summer window and his performances throughout the last few seasons certainly suggest this would be the case. He left the club a nobody four years ago, and he would now return a four-time Serie A title winner and a Champions League finalist, following a hugely successful spell at Juventus.
The Italian outfit will not let their star man go cheaply, but a bid in the region of £100 million should be extremely difficult to turn down. The increased Premier League television revenue puts the club in a unique position this summer, in which money is a non-issue. If Pogba is wanting to make the move back to Old Trafford, then the club have the finances to make it happen.
