The Sun report that the club are gearing up for a battle with Jose Mourinho’s former side Real Madrid in the summer as the two clubs vie to try to sign Monaco attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva. The 22-year-old has so far registered seven goals and six assists in 30 games this season.
The Portuguese international, who has 10 caps to his name but missed Euro 2016 through injury, plays on the right wing and would bring pace and skill to the Red Devils, but they face tough competition from Madrid for the winger, who has three years left to run on his existing contract.
However, some of the money to fund such a move may come from the sale of Luke Shaw as the Independent claim that he could be sold as Jose Mourinho grows increasingly frustrated with his lack of progress, say the Independent. Chelsea and Tottenham are both believed to be monitoring the situation.
The 21-year-old has not featured for the first team since victory over West Ham in the EFL Cup nearly two months ago and has struggled ever since very public criticism from Mourinho after defeat to Watford.
The club is still keen to keep one eye on the future though, as they consider a move for AC Milan’s teen sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma as a long term successor for David de Gea in the United goal. Tuttosporto claim that a number of top clubs are monitoring the 17-year-old.
With over 60 first team appearances and an Italian Super Cup title to his name despite his young age, a move could be viable as his agent Mino Raiola brokered numerous deals, such as those for Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, last summer and could be prepared to do so again in the future.
