Mourinho under pressure

Where Jose Mourinho goes, trophies and controversy tend to follow. In a career that has seen the Portuguese maestro claim two Champions League winners medals and multiple trophies in Portugal, Italy, England and Spain it is difficult not to be impressed by his extensive CV.

However, Mourinho certainly has a tendency to court controversy. Whether it is his outspoken criticism of his peers in the media, touchline antics or disputes with medical staff, there is a darker aspect that casts a shadow on his accomplishments.

Being sent to the stands for lashing out at a water bottle may not exactly be at the top of the list of shocking moments, but it is impossible to argue that Mourinho looks like a man under pressure. This is the second time this campaign that he has been removed from the touchline and a second ban will certainly embarrass United’s hierarchy who pride their club on integrity and having a positive public image. When United needed a cool head on Sunday evening, Mourinho lost his.

Quite where Mourinho goes now is anyone’s guess. United have so many current issues in terms of the tactical system being used and the players available that the Portuguese manager will have a great deal of work to do just to guide the club into a Champions League spot come May.
