There is something wrong with Tottenham’s transition phase
The North London side have the best defence in the league and have the foundations to challenge for the title. However, they are struggling to create clear cut chances and that is a huge concern. Manchester United were there to be got at today and if Spurs had started quickly in the similar way to how they did against Chelsea, it would have been a completely different game. They were laboured and allowed Manchester United the opportunity to control the game.
It isn’t that Tottenham are wasting the chances that come their way, it is that they aren’t creating clear cut chances at all. Their best chances came due to Manchester United mistakes and even when in those dangerous positions, Tottenham weren’t clinical in their decision making. Christian Eriksen was a particular disappointment. The Dane was one of the best creative midfielders in the league 18 months ago, but he hasn’t developed since then and he is being carried by his team, especially against the better teams in the league. Tottenham should have taken confidence from their convincing win over Swansea, but it looks like that performance was due to how bad Swansea were and not how impressive Tottenham were in attack.
