Rafa Benitez’s future as Newcastle United manager is in doubt as a rift continues between him and the board over investment in the squad.
Speculation has continued into this week with The Express claiming Benitez might walk away this week.
But yesterday, Newcastle had a day to remember and made two statements of intent to surely tempt Benitez into staying.
Firstly, the Magpies have agreed to splash a club-record fee on Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron, BBC Sport reports.
Newcastle are hoping to sign the Paraguay international for £20m to add some creativity to the midfield.

And shortly after, Benitez was reminded that his current players can still perform after they produced a magnificent display to shock Manchester City.
Newcastle conceded within the first minute but turned the game on its head with Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie’s goals making it 2-1.
Times are looking more positive for Newcastle as Mike Ashley finally decides to back Benitez with some investment.
And after yesterday’s surprise victory, Newcastle are 14th with a five-point cushion outside the relegation zone.
Almiron’s arrival should continue to lift Newcastle away from the drop zone and this will please Benitez.
The Spaniard wants to take his Newcastle team to the next level and compete for Europe and they might now have the backing to do just that.
