Manchester City will discuss a new contract with Fernandinho after the Champions League final has taken place this weekend.
City take on Chelsea in an all-English final this evening in Porto. It’s the first CL Final Pep Guardiola has led his team to, and he’ll be desperate to see off Thomas Tuchel’s men.

Chelsea have had the upper hand, however, in recent times. Tuchel masterminded the FA Cup win over City, before proving a stubborn test in the Premier League too.
But regardless of the result this evening, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Fernandinho will be offered a new contract until 2022.
Fernandinho was initially expected to leave the club this summer. However, in recent months, it has become apparent that he’s still a vital cog in the City system.
So much so, it seems, that Pep Guardiola is not willing to let him leave just yet, as he is doing with Sergio Aguero. The Brazilian midfielder has been a mainstay of the entire club ever since he signed back in 2013.
Fernandinho is crucial to Manchester City, despite his age
Some players just have it and Fernandinho is one of them. The longevity, the class, and the professionalism, make him stand out as one of the best the Premier League has seen.
Fernandinho also seems to be crucial off the field at City. He’s loved by all the players, as well as the management team.
The icing on the cake, of course, is to see Fernandinho lift the Champions League. The new contract will come regardless, but if he can lift the famous trophy, then pen fresh terms, it will mean that little bit more.
Regardless, though, Fernandinho is a Manchester City legend and him staying on for another year is vitally important for this squad.
