Report: Conte could hand surprise Tottenham start to ‘very talented’ player at Manchester City

Talk about a nightmare game for Tottenham if they’re looking to get some form under their belt, as Antonio Conte’s side face a Manchester City side nobody wants to play.

City are absolutely flying in the Premier League and Europe. They scored five in Lisbon in midweek. Meanwhile, Spurs have lost three on the trot and there are already murmurs of discontent between Conte and some of the higher-ups at Tottenham.

However, Conte will also view this clash with City as a chance for his team to really lay a marker. And to lay that marker, the Italian will need to get his team selection spot on. With that, it’s important that whoever Conte picks, really puts in a fine performance.

One player who could get the nod is January signing, Dejan Kulusevski. According to The Standard, Kulusevski could be in line for his first start in Tottenham colours. He’s only made sporadic appearances on the bench so far but is said to be doing well in training.

Indeed, Ben Davies is just one Spurs player who has labelled both Kulusevski and fellow newboy Rodrigo Bentancur as ‘very talented’ players.

The Swede will be chomping at the bit to show what he can do and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him play.

Given Tottenham have lost three in a row, nobody could begrudge Conte making changes. Kulusevski could operate as one of the front three, or he could be used at wing-back if needed as well.

If he does play, he’ll need to perform. It doesn’t get any hard than City away but it’s also a chance for the new Spurs signing to show just why he was signed.
