With the arrival of the new City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, and the signings of Jesus Navas from Sevilla and Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk, fans’ expectations will be high for the upcoming Premier league season.
However, the departure of Carlos Tevez has increased the need for an improvement of attacking options for the new manager, requiring a search for the perfect candidate for the replacement of Tevez.
Pellegrini has planned to use current and future signings in order to ensure a strong line up for the season ahead.
Here is a list of possible players that could be brought in to bolster the Manchester City squad.
Alvaro Negredo – Sevilla
Pellegrini has begun work at Manchester City and will be looking to make signing striker Alvaro Negredo a priority. He feels he needs to re-enforce his attacking options and will make a move for the Sevilla striker, who has a buy-out clause of £18 million.
The striker could join up with Jesus Navas at Manchester City, who joined them earlier this summer.
Manchester City definitely have the money to activate Negredo’s buy-out clause but the clubs’ officials will want to persuade Sevilla to lower the asking price.
Oscar Cardoza – Benfica
Cardozo is one option being looked at by Pellegrini.
The Portuguese giants value the striker at around £14.5million, but may be forced to let him go for less after Cardozo shoved his manager following a shock defeat by Guimaraes in the Portuguese Cup final.
Frederico Chaves Guedes – Fluminense
The 29-year-old forward, who currently plays football for Fluminense, is seen as a possible replacement for the Argentine Carlos Tevez.
Fred is thought to be an inexpensive option for Manchester City, when compared with some of their other signings, although there are apprehensions as to how well the Brazilian striker will adjust to the Premier league.
Pepe – Real Madrid
Manuel Pellegrini managed Pepe during his time at Real Madrid and is keen to partner him the with current City captain Vincent Kompany, convinced that, together, Pepe and Kompany can form an outstanding central defensive partenership.
However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently explained that he expects Pepe to remain with the Spanish giants this summer.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo – Roma
Manchester City have maintained an interest in Osvaldo as they look to add to their forward line, seeing the Roma striker as an ideal replacement for Carlos Tevez’s work rate.
The Italian international scored 16 goals in 29 appearances in Serie A last season, but is well known by Manuel Pellegrini from his time in La Liga with Espanyol.
However, Manchester City now face strong competition from Atletico Madrid, also competing for the Italian striker.
Mario Gomez – Bayern Munich
Manchester City have listed Bayern Munich striker, Mario Gomez, as one of four targets, as they move to quickly rebuild their attacking force after the departure of Carlos Tevez.
The £20 million forward is the most exciting transfer prospect for Manchester City, open to move from Bayern Munich having fallen down the pecking order, following the arrival of Mario Mandzuki.
Robert Lewandowski – Borussia Dortmund
With Carlos Tevez departing the club, leaving only Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero as senior strikers, Manchester City are ready to renew their interest in Robert Lewandowski as they begin looking for a new goal scorer.
Conversely, Bayern are also eager to recruit Lewandowski on a free next summer.
Luis Suarez – Liverpool
Pellegrini is not willing to overspend on a new striker so his attentions have now turned to Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who wants to leave Liverpool.
Despite saying he wants a move to Spain, English club, Manchester City are still tempted to make an offer for the Liverpool attacker, but it is reported that they are demanding more than what they paid to sign Suarez from Ajax, a sum of £23 million.
Previously, Liverpool officials stated that they do not want to sell their 26 year old striker, but, after hearing comments made by the Uruguayan during his time away from the club, they are prepared to listen to offers from clubs around the world, including Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, all of which are interested.
Adil Rami – Valencia
Pellegrini holds Adil Rami in high regard, considering making a bid for the Valencia centre back.
However, other clubs such as Arsenal have also been linked with a £10 million offer for the 27 year old, who is more than eager to leave his current club, Valencia.
