China Get A Piece Of The Action
The Chinese deal, which took place just last month, has seen China Media Capital (CMC) – an investment company – pay £400m for 13% of CFG (valued at £2bn). China are also looking to begin growing the sport at grassroots level, seeing its lack of success at football as an embarrassment to the nation. They are currently looking to clubs like Man City for their academies and players to help the president improve the nation’s game.
Could the deal see a Beijing City or Shanghai City as the next individual clubs in the guise of its British parent? Whilst both China and the UAE will be benefitting from this deal, it also opens up an enormous market to Manchester City, the UK, and further potential outposts of its ‘colonies’.
