Jan Vertonghen looks likely to be leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer and a surprise new team have seemingly entered the fray for his potential signature.
The Telegraph is reporting that Manchester City could consider him a perfect short-term solution to their defensive frailties. The Belgian’s ability to play both at centre-back and left-back has him on Pep Guardiola’s radar for a potential move to one of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals.
It certainly seems like a move that Vertonghen would find hard to turn down.

In fact, he has previously spoken highly of Guardiola, specifically regarding his training methods in comparison to those of former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking to Derniere Heure in 2018, he highlighted how he was working to the bone under the Argentine, but would expect slightly different treatment as a City player.
“Footballers cannot complain, we don’t have to travel that much, and our work days do not last that long. Usually we have to be at the club around 9am and we’re back home for 3pm. It’s a good life.
“The negative point is that we rarely have several days off in a row. Guardiola sometimes offers breaks of 4-5 days to his players but our coach is someone who wants to train hard and a lot.”
Of course, Vertonghen would be privy to such information considering two international team-mates, Vincent Kompany and Kevin De Bruyne, are both Guardiola favourites.
Particularly at this stage of his career, the 33-year-old would likely appreciate a lesser workload whilst still getting the chance to challenge for silverware and play in the Champions League.
It would seem an almost perfect move for the Belgian even if it would leave Tottenham fans disappointed at a perceived switch to a rival club.
