Manchester City supporters discuss Arsenal star after Sunday win

Manchester City secured a 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon at The Etihad thanks to Raheem Sterling’s second-minute header – but City supporters were impressed by one of Arsenal’s players during the win, namely Bukayo Saka.

The Gunners came into the match with their tails up, having picked up a solid point against Benfica away from home in the Europa League – after a 4-2 win over Leeds in the Premier League, in which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick.

But City have been immense. Sterling’s header proved to be the only goal of the game and that saw Pep Guardiola’s men clock up an 18th consecutive win in all competitions. They have conceded just two goals in their last 10 Premier League matches.

Even with the guile, pace, creativity and vision of 19-year-old England international Saka, Arsenal were unable to break down a near-impenetrable defence that is benefiting from the relationship formed between John Stones and new signing Ruben Dias.

Saka has been excellent this season. Despite his tender age, he has clocked up 30 appearances in all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side – having a hand in 11 goals despite being chopped and changed when it comes to his position.

Left-wing, right-wing, left-back, or even in the 10 role – Saka is quickly emerging as one of the club’s best players. He signed a four-year contract with the club last summer, but as he continues to shine – is he surpassing Arsenal?

Yes, the England ace is a product of the Arsenal academy and is likely to do everything he can to help Arsenal return to the glory days he watched as a child. But the chances of them doing that right now, with Manchester City dominant, are unlikely.

Indeed, Arsenal have a fight just to get into European football – despite the influence and impact of Saka. He might soon begin to start considering a move away from the club, but only an elite few will be able to afford him if indeed he is allowed to go.

Manchester City might be one of those clubs interested. City have nabbed players from Arsenal over the past decade, bringing in the likes of Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri and Kolo Toure.

City do boast enormous amount of attacking talent but Riyad Mahrez turned 30 on Sunday. Bernardo Silva is not churning out the performances he did last season, while Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne are on fire.

Saka, though, would certainly improve what City have – and that is a big compliment to pay to the youngster. If City looked to lure the left-footer to The Etihad from Arsenal, it might tempt the Gunners attacker despite his Arsenal connection.

Certainly, City fans were impressed with his performance on Sunday afternoon and some even suggested that they should look to raid the London club and bring him north to work under Guardiola – alongside England teammates Sterling and Foden.
