Manchester City star sends Instagram message to Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes scored a delightful volley for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon but it was not enough to secure three points against West Bromwich Albion – and Manchester City star Joao Cancelo has responded on his Instagram post.

Manchester United were tasked with beating West Brom to remain five points behind Cancelo’s City, after Pep Guardiola’s men had beaten Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on Saturday evening. However, United went behind early on to West Brom.

Conor Gallagher’s cross was expertly headed into the net by Mbaye Diagne inside two minutes, but it was 1-1 at the break when Luke Shaw’s looping cross was expertly volleyed into the top corner by Fernandes, despite having his back to goal.

It was the 26-year-old’s 19th goal of the season in all competitions – and 14th in 24 Premier League outings this season. He posted on Instagram following his effort, underlining his side’s frustration at failing to pick up all three points.

The failure to win sees City sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand over the chasing pack. Liverpool’s loss to Leicester City sees Jurgen Klopp’s men sit 13 behind City, with City facing Everton on Wednesday.

With Fernandes’ goal striking a resemblance to Zinedine Zidane’s 2002 Champions League final effort against Bayer Leverkusen, Portugal teammate Cancelo compared the United star’s effort to that of the Frenchman.

His comment is translated as “Sorry there, Zizou”.
