Manchester City sign Leroy Sane - Twitter Reacts
Manchester City completed their third major signing of the window as Leroy Sane has joined from FC Schalke. The German international has cost the club £37 million plus add-ons, with the winger penning a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
At the age of 20, it is a huge investment, but one that they will look to be paid back over the next five to ten years. The fee is considered high by some, as Sane has only had one full season in senior football. However, that season was excellent and resulted in him being called into the German squad for Euro 2016.
Although he only played a minor role in the competition, it shows how highly he is rated in the international setup and that he is set to be an important part of the future.
Last season was his breakout year and he was one of the stand-out performers in the Bundesliga, which will have caught the eye of Pep Guardiola. Two of the three signings that City have made this summer have come from the German league. It is clear Guardiola is leaning on the knowledge of players that he gained during his time as Bayern Munich manager.
Across the 2015/16 campaign, Sane scored eight goals and contributed six assists. He started 23 league matches and was brought on as a sub in a further ten. The winger caught the imagination of the German public with his powerful dribbling skills and ability to produce match-winning moments in the final third.
It is obvious that Sane is one of the most exciting young players in world football, and his signing indicates City are trying to lower the average age of the squad. They are believed to be trying to sign John Stones and Gabriel Jesus in addition to Sane.
Guardiola is turning his attention to the best players of tomorrow and that will be encouraging for City fans, as many of their current squad are past their peak.
After joining City, Sane told the official site that Pep Guardiola was a huge reason for him joining the club:
“I feel really good, I’m happy to be here and happy that it has all worked out. Now I can settle here in Manchester and play for City.
“One of the reasons I decided to join City was Pep Guardiola; he convinced me to come here and that I can continue to progress. I know I will learn a lot under him and now I can take the next step in my career.

No coach could better coax out the superstar in Sane than Guardiola. No coach can better straighten out his deficiencies than Guardiola.
