It is good news if you support Manchester City today, as the club have finally announced the signing of Spain international and Celta Vigo striker Nolito on a four-year deal. The 29-year-old makes a move to the Premier League after the club triggered his £13.8 million release clause with the La Liga outfit.
This switch sees Nolito finalise his reunion with his old manager Pep Guardiola – the man who gave im his full Barcelona debut back in 2010 – ahead of, what has the potential to be, the most competitive Premier League season in decades.
Nolito is an excellent addition for Guardiola in his debut season at the Etihad, and for a very respectable fee. In the inaugural year of the increased revenue from the new Premier League Television deal, many sides will be seen overspending on key targets – but not Pep, who already seems to have everything under control.
The Spanish international made 29 appearances for Celta Vigo in La Liga last term, scoring 12 goals and creating a further seven. He also chipped in with one goal and an assist at Euro 2016 in France, as his nation reached the first knock-out round, before falling victim to a well drilled Italy side.
He is likely to challenge Raheem Sterling for a starting role on the left flank at the Etihad, and after the youngster’s performances with England this summer, he will certainly fancy his chances of making the position in Pep’s best-eleven his own.
Following the completion of his move, Nolito told the Manchester City website: “It’s just about trying to play my normal game and let’s hope that I can help Manchester City to win games.”
“I think that Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world. He knows a lot about the game and he’s going to help me progress as a player and I’m sure he’ll get the best out of me.”
