The disappointment in terms of transfers has started already for Arsenal it seems, with the club set to miss out on the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Savio to Manchester City.

The Gunners have been tracking Savio – also known as Savinho – for some time now and were believed to have opened talks with the youngster and his club, Atletico Mineiro, back in January. However, according to the Daily Mail, who cite reports from Brazil, it is indeed City who are now pressing home a deal for the teenager.

Their report states how talks are underway between City Group and Savio over a potential deal worth around £8.4m to the Brazilian club. For Arsenal, it means an early blow in their transfer plans, albeit the Brazilian was unlikely to be a first-team signing at this stage.

It’s suggested Savio could go on loan either within the City Group or to PSV. The Dutch club are cited by the Mail as having been in touch with City over taking the youngster on loan.

City have already explored the South American market a number of times and signed Kayky last year. First-team regular Gabriel Jesus has also been a roaring success.

TBR’s View: Hopefully Not A Sign Of Things To Come For Arsenal

The Arsenal fans do seem to go into meltdown – on Twitter anyway – when it comes to their team and transfers.

We saw in January how they missed out on a number of targets and fans will be conscious of a repeat in this summer, especially if this early transfer is a sign of things to come.

Of course, there’ll be others. Edu is keen on looking in South America for talent and Savio might just be one of many who they are looking at. Ultimately, he will be judged on who he signs at first-team level more than anything this summer.
