Manchester City round-up: Sanchez swap deal; Palace join striker race; defender seeks Italy switch

According to reports in the Daily Star, Arsenal and Manchester City are allegedly weighing up a sensational swap deal that would see Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero switch clubs.

The report claims that Arsene Wenger – who is hesitant to sell his star striker to a rival Premier League side – could be tempted to let him leave should he get some firepower up front in return.

The 28-year-old only has a year left on his contract at the Emirates but has made no efforts to engage in talks of an extension just yet, suggesting that he’s looking for a move away this summer.

And the lure of City’s Sergio Aguero could be persuasive enough for Wenger to sanction a move to Manchester, with the Argentine not guaranteed first-team football next year due to Gabriel Jesus.

Despite scoring 33 goals in all competitions in Pep Guardiola’s debut season Aguero found himself dropped to the bench at times, and the promise of regular action at Arsenal may just turn his head.

Yet comments made from Aguero a few months back – as reported by Chinese media outlet Xinhuaclaim that the forward is happy to see his current contract out at City until 2020.

With reports of one striker potentially leaving the club, the Mirror have reported that another one could be on his way out as Crystal Palace have joined the race for young Kelechi Iheanacho.

After BBC Sport confirmed this morning that former Ajax boss Frank de Boer is the new man at the helm at Selhurst Park, it is believed that one of his first signings could be the 20-year-old Nigerian.

The Eagles would have to fight Premier League rivals West Ham and Leicester City to secure the signing of the promising young striker in a move that could cost around £25 million.

It is believed that Manchester City would insert a buy-back clause into any potential deal to make sure that, should he fulfil his potential, that he could make a return to the Etihad one day.

Iheanacho struggled to stake a claim for a regular first-team role in Pep Guardiola’s debut season, made to be third in the pecking order behind Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

Away from transfer speculation, Manchester City defender Aleksander Kolarov has revealed his intention to end his career at Italian side Lazio, but not until his City days are well and truly over.

The Daily Star reported today that boss Guardiola is set to sign four new full-backs during the summer window in a £110 million spree – including left-sided defenders Benjamin Mendy and Ryan Bertrand.

But despite only having one-year remaining on his current contract the veteran Serbian remained defiant and said he isn’t looking for a move away just yet.

Speaking to Il Mesaggero, the Serbian said: “I would love to return to Lazio.

“I am no longer young but I can still have my say. When I finish my adventure at City it would be nice to embrace the white and blue again.

“The football in England is different, the stadiums are always full but I miss Italy.”

Kolarov managed 29 appearances in the Premier League last season, often utilised in Guardiola’s experimental three-man defensive system, scoring once and adding an assist.
