The big news on Thursday morning will come as a big blow to Manchester City fans after Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger once again re-enforced the fact that forward Alexis Sanchez is going nowhere.
Rumours have been circulating through the transfer window so far, as The Guardian report, that Sanchez is a priority signing for City boss Pep Guardiola and that he was closing in on a £50 million switch.
But Wenger has time and time again denied the speculation, and speaking in a press conference before the Community Shield this weekend he re-asserted that the Chilean will remain at Arsenal.
BBC Sport reports he said: “The only thing I can tell you is he is focused.
“My decision is clear – he will stay and he will respect that.”
“He will be here for this season and if we manage to do it for more seasons, we will do it as well.”
The 28-year-old returned to first-team training earlier this week after an extended summer break following the FIFA Confederations Cup, and footage from The Sun shows him kissing the Arsenal badge.
Meanwhile, reports coming from The Sun on Thursday morning have suggested that Manchester City are set to lose out to rivals Chelsea in the race for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
It is thought that, despite showing interest in the 23-year-old England international, it is Antonio Conte’s side that are close to securing a deal as Chelsea look to bring in more home-grown players for next year.
After Nathaniel Chlobah, Nathan Ake, John Terry, Dominic Solanke, Izzy Brown, Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all left for new clubs this summer there is a huge void of English talent at Stamford Bridge, and Conte seems intent on improving their quota through Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 23-year-old was one of the more impressive players in Arsene Wenger’s side last season, often used in a right wing-back role, managing 29 Premier League appearances and assisting seven times.
Lastly, the Independent have claimed that Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho has stopped training at the Etihad as he looks to force a move to another Premier League club over the summer.
The 17-year-old winger is a highly-exciting young prospect but, to try and act as a catalyst for a switch elsewhere, he hasn’t attended training at the City Football Academy over the course of the past week.
Despite being offered a three-year deal at the Etihad worth £30,000-a-week it’s believed that Sancho doesn’t see a clear path to the first-team, and instead is looking at either Arsenal or Tottenham.
And the report claims that Tottenham have already been making waves as they look to bring him to White Hart Lane, already attempting – and failing – to have him form part of Kyle Walker’s move in the opposite direction.
