Manchester City could be facing a ‘now or never’ situation to sign Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, as The Sun has reported that the Citizens could face a possible transfer ban during the next two windows.
It is thought that City could face punishment over the way they dealt with the signing of young Argentinian Benjamin Gorre, with Velez Sarsfield unhappy at the way they went about the switch.
The Argentinian side claim that Manchester City made an unlawful approach whilst Gorre was still 15-years-old, suggesting that the transfer should not have been allowed until his 18th birthday.
Velez Sarsfield’s chief executive Bernardo Bertelloni said:
“City argued there is an exception in Fifa rules as he has a European passport. But the Fifa rule does not say that — it says he can move only within the EU, between EU clubs.”
The case is set to be put in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport after FIFA rejected the complaint that they made – and if they lose, City could be banned from making signings until January 2019.

And if the decision is to give City a transfer ban then Pep Guardiola could now face a ‘do or die’ few months in his pursuit of Sanchez, with the Spaniard potentially unable to wait another 12 months.
In other news, the The Sun have also claimed today that Manchester City could secure the signing of Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy in the upcoming weeks after they have recruited a replacement.
The current Ligue One champions added Feyenoord left-back Terence Kongolo to their ranks yesterday evening – now paving the way for Mendy to leave and make his Premier League switch.
The 22-year-old played an integral part in Monaco’s successful season last year, and it’s thought that Pep Guardiola is now willing to meet their £40 million valuation of the defender.
The French international would become the second player to make the move from Monaco to Manchester so far this summer, with midfielder Bernardo Silva moving across in a £43 million deal.
Lastly, from one wide defender to another, as the Independent reports that Manchester City and Tottenham have made no progress during talks over the switch of England defender Kyle Walker.
The two clubs have been locked in talks for a fortnight now but it is understood that negotiations aren’t any closer to being completed, with the North London side in no rush to complete a deal.
A source close to the Independent said neither side are willing to budge on a fee for Walker – with the Citizens not yet meeting Spurs’ valuation of £50 million for the PFA team of the year right-back.
It all adds up to the fact that the saga is set to rumble on into another week, and with Tottenham leaving for pre-season on the July 19 it seems unlikely that negotiations will be finalised by that date.
It is thought that City are hoping that a move can be completed by the time they jet off for their pre-season tour of America at the end of July, although this is in jeopardy.
